Yellow Submarine

All the way to school today, my son was singing “When I’m Sixty-Four” in the backseat. Somehow, I’ve gone six years without having either Barney or Teletubbies playing in my stereo or car. Cartoon Network helped. As did Batman. But there’s nothing more enriching in life than sharing a common enthusiasm and interest with your child and watching it grown to an unhealthy obsession.

Our recent passion is The Beatles. All through dinner I told him stories. About Stu Sutcliffe. About Mark David Chapman. About ‘Hard Day’s Night’. About Ringo and his broken arm.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde: If you play your cards right you never have to worry about Barney. And Barney doesn’t have to worry about you.
