Driving home today, Julia announced that she had never seen an apple tree before.

“Well, there are apple trees here. We can go look at ’em sometime.”

“No. I want to grow one,” she said.

“We can’t grow one in our backyard, it would look goofy next to all the other trees.”

“We could grow it in the front yard.”

“But then people would walk by and steal our apples.”

“Dad,” she said. “They can have our apples if they’re hungry.”
