Putting the Honky in ‘Honky Tonk’

A sample of a conversation I had today with one of the locals here…

“What’s the crime rate like?”

“Not too bad. Some minor burglary, a few bank robberies last year. But since the negro population doesn’t like to come this far north, it’s not too bad. There’s virtually no blacks here at all.”

I wait, for a long time, trying to gauge if they’re joking or not.

Four hours later, I’m still not sure.
