Heading up tomorrow with Sam to Manistee — two-day canoe trip with a group from church. We’re all packed up. Sleeping bags and warm clothes and snacks and flashlights. I’m smuggling paper, pen, and a book of Galway Kinnell’s poetry.
It’s almost October, in Michigan. It’s gonna be raining, fifty degrees, and no beer and no cussing. In the evening, there will be a campfire and I’m betting there will likely be a acoustic guitar in there somewhere, with plenty of praise songs.
Sam will have a great time and I will have something to bitch about here for a few days. So everybody wins.
There’s a reason my people don’t camp out.
Yeah, it’s called ‘The Blair Witch Project’.
I’ll be back Sunday night. Don’t wait up.
