Falling on the Face of the Earth
Well . . . okay. I’ve been away for a while trying to make it through some hectic weeks at work and dealing with a fair amount of noise at home as well. It was one of those running-to-stand-still kinds of periods in my life where everything is in triage mode, solve the immediate needs and keep moving.
Adapt and proceed, adapt and proceed.
But I’m back now, with about a thousand things I’d like to post about — five hundred of which I most definitely shouldn’t post about. Someday I’m going to maybe get me a website for all of those things. But, until that day comes, here’s a few tidbits…
…this site is officially my new favorite site. Not only is it a perfect place to do some shopping for grandparents, but it also is incredibly addictive. I had to resist the very real temptation to do a whole series on the teakids. But I managed to restrain myself. When the book is finally finished and published (please God, sometime before I die, please…), then I’ll produce a special set and use them when I answer all my fan mail. I may even need to order two sheets.
…and it appears that, despite efforts by dark unseen forces, ‘The Odyssey’ is a go. The production is in Iowa, November and December of this year. They’ve got a cast and the first read-through is tonight. I can’t make it to any rehearsals but the director was kind enough to pass along my semi-joking suggestion for setting up a webcast to his IT lackeys who have, apparently, jumped at the opportunity. Which means — with his permission — I might be able to post a link here at some point so that interested parties could sneak a peek at one of the later dress rehearsals. Stay tuned for more details.
…this also means I’ve got to get a proper broadband connection here at home and stop piggybacking on someone in my neighborhood — although I saw a few nights ago that someone was out there, listening to my iTunes library. So if they’re getting something out of the deal, I suppose it’s a fair arrangement.
…in as much as ‘The Odyssey’ is a go, it turns out that at least six pages of the script are not, in fact, quite as “go” as they need to be. So I’m going to have to scrape together some time over the next couple of days to fix it. Otherwise, people will be sitting in the audience wondering why Tiresias sounds like such a nimrod and when did Athena get so damn mean all of a sudden.
…like Jack, I really liked the ‘Triplets of Belleville’ and I was surprised recently to find out that it’s got more mythic perspective than I realized. Or maybe I’m just not pretentious enough.
…I watched ‘The Omen’ for the first time a few weeks back. Much to Keeley’s annoyance, it took about fifteen seconds for me to slip into MST-3K mode even though the movie was far superior to ‘The Exorcist’ (although not the bunny version). I do a fairly good Gregory Peck impression, so that made it all the more fun for me. And it isn’t everyone who can do a ‘Tron’ joke during ‘The Omen’ and make it work.
…and, apprently, words have colors, which put me in mind of the old ‘Man Born Blind’
short story by C.S. Lewis as well as the essay Neil Gaiman wrote about stories having genders.
…I’m taking some time off this week to spend with Sam and Julia. It might also give me the chance to round out my new site at long last. Or maybe I’ll just end up going to the Children’s Museum and playing War of the Monsters a lot.
…and now I’m just too tired to post more, so it’s time to write a bit and send some e-mails and read some comic books (I’m currently working through the Alan Moore run of the ‘Swamp Thing’ again) and then I’m off to bed.
But I’m back now.
See you tomorrow…
