Two sites I usually look at every day are Vers Libre and The Literacy Site. This morning I was disappointed to find both of them gone.

It’s not the first time for Vers Libre. Plenty of time over the past five years I’ve found it vanished, the host that served it having put up a boilerplate page in its place. Then it shows up somewhere else a few months later, like Brigadoon.

But The Literacy Site is a great one and I don’t know if it’s coming back. The whole idea behind the site is this: There’s a link to click on the main page. When you do, they donate a book to a child. It’s that simple. Through corporate and charitable sponsoship, they give away free books to kids. All you have to do is remember to click once every day. I always enjoyed checking the running count to see how many books/clicks they’d racked up each day.

But . . . no books today. Try again tomorrow.
