I first met Dan back in college. He was a few years younger than me and I was quite the pathologically-self-involved-wannabe-actor-writer-whatever at the time. We got on fairly well, were in a number of plays together — he was Captain Hook to my Peter Pan — and then I graduated and wandered off into the world. A few years later he did as well. And we never spoke again.

At least, not until a few years ago when he tracked me down out of the blue. As I recall, he IM’d me one afternoon and I for one was quite surprised to find that our paths — which had seemed quite different when we first met — had some very strange and surprising parallels over the intervening years: Growing Up a Bit, Writing, Married, More Writing, Web Design and Internet Stuff, Divorced, a Lot More Growing Up, More Writing, and so on. He stayed on acting, however, whereas I had not — both of which it turns out were lucky things for our respective audiences.

And so it was odd to read Neil Gaiman’s journal today, to see Dan mentioned there and even linked to.

The show sounds interesting, wish I could go see it. If you’re out there, go and have a look.

If you do, please tell Dan I said “Hello…”

Thanks.
