Over on his blog, Neil Gaiman writes
Probably more than you really wanted to know, but I’m an author who’s been writing a book, and mostly it’s what my head is filled with, and it’s interesting if you’re me.
And, not for the first time, I have to agree with him. Yes. That’s exactly how I feel as well. I am fascinated with what’s going on in my own head* and apologies to anyone who’s looking for something else. I expect that there’s a more interesting blog out there, if you look hard enough.
It was interesting to see photos of the notebook in which he’s writing his current work-in-progress “The Graveyard Book” (a great title, hope he keeps it). I’ve been living with my own set of notebooks for a while now, alternating between loving and hating the decision to write a novel that hundreds of thousands of words in longhand.
Not sure what I’ll do with my next project. I’ll probably keep the pen in my hand. Working in analog may have added some time to the process, but I think there were other benefits. As I approach the next book (yes, I already know what it will be) I expect I’ll stick to pen and ink for the first draft.
But that’s a ways off. I’ve got a lot of work to do on this book first. I’m shooting for a third draft by my birthday and it’s going to take every spare minute to get it there.
And once that’s done, there’s a half-finished play that needs to be not half-finished anymore. And I’ve got what’s either a fairly long short story or a fairly short novel that deserves to be rewritten. Oddly enough, it’s about an undertaker.
(I swear, I’m not copying him. I wrote the undertaker thing fifteen years ago. Honest.)

* To my credit, there are other people’s heads that hold some fascination for me as well.
