Here’s an interesting fact. The spiral tips of conch shells were once broken off and used as simple hearing aids. These rudimentary hearing aids predate the tubes and trumpets used in the early 19th century, the shape of those devices are very similar to that of a spiral shell. Those who used the conch shell hearing aid were able to amplify sound with the shell.
