Please note that this blog spans a broad period of time. The intervening years have brought many things into my life, including divorce and remarriage. As such, some older posts reference a relationship which is no longer active. In context, however, the portrayal is accurate.

For many reasons, I have chosen to let entries such as this one remain in the overall continuity of the site.

Sat up late tonight, talking with Sandberg about war and going through the same kind of thinking that led up to Y2K and a basement room with provisions and water and tablets and a stack of firewood out back (most of which is still there) and so on.

She heard on NPR today that FEMA is recommending everyone get duct tape and plastic for the windows of their homes. Apparently we should designate a “safe room” in the house. A place that can be sealed off, if need be.

The CIA reports that attacks are imminent.

Duct tape and plastic? Is this the 21st century version of “duck and cover”?

Cried for a little bit, thinking about my children, Sam and Julia, and how to keep them safe . . . thinking of how little I can do for them, if it comes to that.

Wrote for a while, going out a few times to shovel heavy Midwestern snow and mentally prepare myself for a snow day at home with the kids tomorrow.
